a regular clockwise motor was used, which made the display of
the time to be counter-clockwise. Would they had used a
counter-clockwise movement, the time would have been MUCH easier
to read.

Howard Miller Table clock. Either a Nelson or Umanoff design.
Works but runs slow. It is in very nice original condition. It
has its original KIENZLE battery operated movement. The hand may
have been replaced at some point, I cant tell. Job well done if
it was. The hand is stationary and the metal tube rotates to
tell time. The clear sleave is lucite. It measures 5" 1/2" H x
5" diameter. |

Questo incredibile orologio sfrutta il
peso delle palline di acciaio che scorrono in canalette a
differenti livelli per segnare il tempo!
Una volta al minuto un apposito braccio meccanico sposta una
pallina dal "deposito" nel canale più alto, questa rotolando nei
differenti canali, grazie ad un gioco di leve e contrappesi
riesce a tenere conto dei minuti e delle ore.

Tra i primi orologi
elettronici perchè realizzabile con complnenti normalmente in
commercio. Veniva per lo più costruito da appassionati di
elettronica o venduto in kit da assemblare.
Uno dei più famosi in Italia
fu quello della Patek Philippe, di dimensioni molto maggiori
(circa 1 metro di larghezza) esposto in un famoso orologiaio di
Milano, sotto la galleria Vittorio Emanuele distributore della
patek stessa.

This
magnificent instrument combines the functions of a high quality
clock, orrery, and music box into a French Empire piece that
stands 65" high on a mahogany pillar. Above the pillar is the
cylindrical bronze music box stamped Arnaud Freres No. 335.
The pin barrel movement is activated by the clock on the hour or
by 3 levers that switch the music on/off, play one of 4
selections, or provide continuous music.
The clock is by Raingo, and signed Z. Raingo a Tournay on the
enamel dial, tells the time and day of the week and strikes the
hour and half hour.
Above the clock
is an ornate ring decorated with the signs of the Zodiac and
above this is the orrery that demonstrates the movement of the
Earth and the Moon around the Sun and shows the age of the moon.
The whole
orrery rotates once a year on the calendar ring set within the
Zodiac ring. The orrey is driven by the clock movement but has
an independently wound barrel.

Although the Jefferson Golden Hour
is undoubtedly the most common mystery clock, having been
produced from 1949 until sometime in the 1980s, it is based on
Leendert Prins’ second mystery clock patent (No. 2,642,713).
Jefferson apparently purchased the rights to Prins’ patent. It
has also been reported that the movements were, at least
initially, produced in the Netherlands by Nederlandsche
Uurwerkfabrieken NUFA NV, and imported for use in Jefferson
clocks. Many of the other mystery clocks, such as the Golden
Minute, Golden View, Golden Helm, Golden Secret, and Exciting
Hour, produced by Jefferson also used the Prins method. |
